Every day, for the almost two years I worked as a staff librarian at the Suffolk County House of Correction at South Bay, the pattern was the same: Seconds after they were released from their units, inmates would not walk, they would run — as though catapulted — towards the prison’s library.

The smell of film. — GUYS I bought film and loaded up my camera. YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS? I don’t. But the images will have stories of their own to share.

We drove at high speeds and the street lights house lights car lights all became hundreds of blurred lines. I felt everything going by so quickly, but I didn’t bother processing it into poetry. I feel like I almost never do nowadays. A sad truth: I just gawk at the beauty of it and then skim on. What happened to meditation on Beauty? That made all the difference.

M: *dips cookie into milk* J: dude I used to thinking dipping milk into cookies was really weird J: wait—dipping milk into cookies?! J: *cracks up into laughter so intense, it’s silent* J: how would you even do that? J: *continues cracking up* J: oh dude, you can put the cookies in a blender and then solidify the milk and put the milk into the cookies!
